Application of Hot and Cold Stone Massage
This innovative and challenging seminar will include a discussion about the use of hot and cold stone massage/hot and cold stones in the application of hydrotherapy.
The theories of hydrotherapy will be reviewed and the introduction of the use of stones in its application. Students will be introduced to the different types of stones, specifically basalt for the application of heat and marble for the application of cold.
Students will be shown how to use these stones during the application of a standard Swedish Massage in order to introduce Hydrotherapy into the session. The application of hot and cold and its reasons for use will be discusses and the contraindications for each.
A standard hot and cold stone protocol will be introduced along with modifications for local contraindications. The care and use of stones will also be discussed and demonstrated, including the cleaning and storage of the stones.
This class is presented as 14 or 16 continuing education hours.
