COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This is a PRIVATE WEBINAR for Employees of Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spas.

Dr. Jeff Cullers of Premier Continuing Education will present this 2-Day oncology massage training. This unique training course has been customized to assist in qualifying Massage Therapists’ in oncology massage.

This course consists of online home study and live webinars and is intended to properly train Hand & Stone Massage Therapists’ in the many facets of oncology massage. This course strictly follows and teaches Hand & Stone Corp. policy as it relates to oncology client treatment protocols and “No Touch Zones”. In this course, Massage Therapists’ will learn how to properly utilize the Hand & Stone Oncology Intake Form and how to formulate a correct oncology massage service/care plan, as well as how to implement a variety of oncology massage techniques including but not limited to; lymphatic drainage massage, therapeutic Swedish massage, gentle stretching techniques and more. Massage Therapists’ will learn how to provide safe and effective oncology massage to those clients whom;

a. have recently been diagnosed with cancer and have not started anti-cancer treatment

b. are in active treatment

c. have a history of cancer

d. have had lymph nodes removed

e. have not had lymph nodes removed

f. have been successfully treated

 

COURSE CONTINUING EDUCATION HOURS:

20 NCBTMB Approved CEs consisting of:

4-hour online home study course consisting of 16, fifteen-minute modules

This online course will be made available 2 weeks prior to each on-site training. In this online oncology massage course, Massage Therapists’ will learn to develop:

1. an understanding of the history of cancer

2. an understanding of current statistical data related to cancer

3. an understanding of the medical terminology related to cancer

4. an understanding of what oncology massage is

5. an understanding of what cancer is and its stages of development

6. an understanding of types of cancer pain & how cancer metastasizes

7. an understanding of cancer fatigue

8. an understanding of cancer treatments

9. an understanding of the effects of chemotherapy treatments and side effects

10. an understanding of the effects of chemo brain and CIPN side effects

11. an understanding of the effects of radiation therapy treatments and side effects

12. an understanding of deep vein thrombosis risk factors & cancer

13. an understanding of the physiological effects of lymphatic drainage massage and cancer

14. an understanding of the anatomical features and terminology of the functional lymphatic system

15. an understanding of the precautions related to other oncology massage techniques

16. an understanding of potential modifications of oncology massage

Please Note: The online home study course and successful passing of examination must be completed prior to attending the live on-site training. All Massage Therapists’ will be required to provide proof of completion of the online course. If a Massage Therapist does not provide proof of completion and successful passing of the online course, they will not be permitted to attend the LIVE webinar.

In this live oncology massage webinar, Massage Therapists’ will learn to develop:

1. an understanding of how to effectively interview an oncology client using the H&S Oncology Massage Intake Form

2. an understanding of H&S oncology massage protocols and how to communicate an appropriate oncology massage service/care plan

3. an understanding of assessment techniques for oncology massage

4. an understanding of what lymphodynamic edema is & causes

5. an understanding of what lymphostatic edema is & causes

6. an understanding of the indications & contraindications of lymphatic drainage massage

7. an understanding of how to perform techniques consistent with proper Vodder-style lymphatic drainage massage for an intact lymphatic system of the head

8. an understanding of how to perform techniques consistent with proper Vodder-style lymphatic drainage massage for an intact lymphatic system of the neck

9. an understanding of how to perform techniques consistent with proper Vodder-style lymphatic drainage massage for an intact lymphatic system of the face

10. an understanding of how to perform techniques consistent with proper Vodder-style lymphatic drainage massage for an altered (lymph node removal) lymphatic system of the arms

11. an understanding of how to perform techniques consistent with proper Vodder-style lymphatic drainage massage for an altered (lymph node removal) lymphatic system of the legs

12. an understanding of how to effectively use safe varieties of effleurage massage techniques

13. an understanding of how to use superficial friction on fingers and toes

14. an understanding of how to use acupressure points to control cancer pain

15. an understanding of how to effectively use safe varieties of kneading massage techniques

16. an understanding of how to effectively use gentle passive stretching techniques

Please Note: Massage Therapists’ will work in groups of 2. Attendees must log in on time and must attend the entire 16 hours. Late log ins will not be permitted to attend the training.

COURSE SCHEDULE:

DAY 1 - (9am – 6pm)

Restroom breaks are given every hour for 10 minutes

Lecture & Hands-On Training 9am – 12pm:

Lecture: Discuss the proper use and outcomes of the H&S Oncology Intake Form.

Hands-On Technique: Begin 1st rotation of lymphatic drainage for the oncology client with lymph nodes intact– focus areas: head, neck, and face

Lunch Break 1pm – 2pm:

Hands-On Training 2pm – 6pm:

Hands-On Technique: Complete 2nd rotation of lymphatic drainage for the oncology client with lymph nodes intact. Begin 1st rotation of lymphatic drainage for the oncology client who has had lymph nodes removed – focus areas: arms and legs

 

 

DAY 2 - (9am - 6pm)

Restroom breaks are given every hour for 10 minutes

Hand-On Training 9am – 12pm:

Hands-On Technique: Complete 2nd rotation of lymphatic drainage for the oncology client who has had lymph nodes removed. Begin 1st rotation of safe Swedish massage options for the oncology client

Lunch Break 1pm – 2pm:

Hands-On Training 2pm – 6pm:

Hands-On Technique: Complete 2nd rotation of safe Swedish massage options for the oncology client and complete both rotations of gentle stretching techniques for the oncology client

When registering and to ensure all on-site training confirmation/reminders emails, instructions on how to access and complete the 4-hour online course, as well as all Certificates are sent, YOU MUST use a valid email address. DO NOT use the spa email address.

A total of 3 confirmation/reminder emails including detailed instructions on how to access and complete the 4-hour online course are sent.

• The first confirmation/reminder email is sent 2 weeks prior to the live course

• The second confirmation/reminder email is sent 1 week prior to the live course

• The third and final confirmation/reminder email is sent 1 day prior to the live course

Please note: Upon registering you may receive all 3 or less confirmation/reminder emails depending on when a registration is entered.

COURSE CERTIFICATES:

Massage Therapists’ who successfully complete the 4-hour online home study course and passed examination, will receive an NCBTMB Approved Certificate of Achievement. Certificates are automatically generated upon the conclusion of the online course. Massage Therapists’ who successfully complete the 16-hour live webinar, will be emailed an NCBTMB Approved Certificate of Completion. It is recommended that Certificates be printed, and a copy retained in your employ file.
