This unique and engaging seminar presented by, Licensed Massage Therapist and Whole Health Educator, Bridgit Martin, takes an in-depth look at modern man’s use of mobile technology and the health and body dysfunctions that arise from improper posture, repetitive use and structural imbalances. Neck pain from forward head posture, low back and hip pain from extensive commuting, and arm and hand strain from repetitive with extensive computing at a desk-laptop are all part of the Text-Neck and Commuter-Computer Dysfunction!

Students will be able to complete a one hour therapeutic massage treatment that will explore specific muscular strain that mobile technology users experience.

Discussion will include massage therapy techniques to address:

1. Cross-pattern strains

2. Repetitive use injuries

3. low back/hip pain from long commutes or extensive sitting

4. headaches and eye strain from monitor viewing or driving

5. proper ergonomics for desk or hand held devices

6. Pain from forward head posture

7. Breathing and movement exercises to assist with lymph movement and to increase oxygen with simple restorative exercises.

Learners will gain understanding of specific muscular groups that affect technology users and how to treat pain or dysfunction with therapeutic massage. Simple pre and post assessment tools will be shown, and students will be able to create a treatment using practical therapeutic massage techniques for positive health outcomes for their clients.

Included in this workshop is the opportunity to explore rehabilitative stretching and lengthening exercises that can be shared by the therapist to clients for home use. Students will be asked to dress comfortably for easy movement on the floor. Bodywork and tabletime will be shared as the learners explore the regions of neck, arms, low back and hip.

With an interest in restoring proper lengthening and softening of the myofascial sheaths this class may utilize a body stretching Ball on a Wall, gentle Hatha Yoga, and/or simple stretches, all of which can be shared with clients for home self-care.
